Chris Wallace Admits He’s ‘Jealous’ Of Kristen Welker For Her Debate Performance

Chris Wallace Welker

The Fox News host Chris Wallace has spoken out to admit that he’s “jealous” of Kristen Welker for her performance as moderator in Thursday night’s presidential debate.

Wallace ‘Jealous’ Of Welker

Welker, who works for NBC News, was widely praised for her handling of the debate between President Donald Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden. This was in stark comparison to Wallace’s performance as moderator of the first debate, which was panned by critics from both sides of the aisle.

“Well, first of all, I’m jealous,” Wallace said after the debate, according to the New York Post. “I would have liked to have been able to moderate that debate and to get a real exchange of views instead of hundreds of interruptions.”

While hosting the first presidential debate at the end of September, Wallace was unable to control both candidates, and the entire thing quickly went off the rails. Afterwards, he admitted that he was “disappointed” in what happened.

Wallace’s Abysmal Debate Performance

“I’m just sad with the way last night turned out,” Wallace told the New York Times the next day. “I never dreamt that it would go off the tracks the way it did.”

“I’ve read some of the reviews, I know people think, Well, gee, I didn’t jump in soon enough,” Wallace said. “I guess I didn’t realize — and there was no way you could, hindsight being 20/20 — that this was going to be the president’s strategy, not just for the beginning of the debate but the entire debate.”

“Generally speaking, I did as well as I could, so I don’t have any second thoughts there,” he added. “I’m just disappointed with the results. For me, but much more importantly, I’m disappointed for the country, because it could have been a much more useful evening than it turned out to be.”

Welker, however, had no such issues. In fact, she did so well that she managed to garner praise from President Trump himself. While answering a question during the debate, he paused to say, “So far, I respect very much the way you’re handling this, I have to say.”
