Can Brian Williams Survive His Big Lie?

Blind to the backlash from people who seek honesty in news reporting, NBC News still has Brian Williams anchoring their nightly newscast. But, perhaps that will change after Williams’ predecessor has made his opinion known.

The New York Post’s Page Six is reporting that revered former NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw wants Brian Williams to be fired for lying about being in a helicopter in Iraq that was downed by enemy fire.

“Brokaw wants Williams’ head on a platter,” an NBC source said. “He is making a lot of noise at NBC that a lesser journalist or producer would have been immediately fired or suspended for a false report.”

Brokaw has a reputation for strongly supporting veterans so his voice could lend some credibility to the movement to remove Williams. With “American Sniper” performing so well in theaters, NBC News could have a dilemma on its hands if Williams remains in the anchor chair. He lied for professional gain by soiling the sacrifices made by men and women in uniform who put their lives on the line to defend our freedoms.

Williams was rather detailed when discussing the story with David Letterman. After telling the story, Letterman referred to Williams as a “war hero.”

Williams recanted the story earlier this week but instead of blaming his honesty, he blamed his memory. Williams had to acknowledge his lie after being called out by veterans.
