California continues to secure its stranglehold on the title of ‘most embarrassing state in the union.’ If it goes against American traditions or is even vaguely patriotic, they will fight it tooth and nail.
A bill is circulating in the California Assembly which would get rid of George Washington or Abraham Lincoln’s birthday as a paid holiday by combining the two into a singular date, and replacing one with ‘International Workers Day.’
The new holiday would be celebrated on May 1st.
You know, a day typically celebrated in communist countries? A holiday currently celebrated in the Soviet Union on the very same day.
The legislation has been introduced by Assemblyman Miguel Santiago, who is – brace yourself – a Democrat!

According to Santiago’s office, the bill would “engage students in curriculum about the history of the labor movement and to promote public awareness of the role the labor movement played in shaping California and the United States.”
Assemblyman Matthew Harper seemed aghast that such a bill would even make it through committee.
“Are we in competition to become the laughingstock of the United States?” Harper asked. “This is ridiculous. This is insane.”

“This is un-American,” Harper added. “And for folks who think that the U.S. won the Cold War with the Soviet Union, this makes it sound like we’re going in the other direction — that indeed California is kowtowing to the Soviet domination of the Cold War.”

The bill was read three separate times in the Assembly and voted down by a narrow margin of 27-22, with 29 members not voting.
It is, however, far from dead, as Santiago made a motion to reconsider the bill that same day.
Are you surprised California would consider adopting a communist holiday in place of Washington or Lincoln’s birthday?
