Video: Handicapped Boy Pulls Himself to Feet To Stand For the National Anthem

Colin Kaepernick – eat your heart out.

A 10-year-old boy who often makes use of a wheelchair and requires braces on his legs willed himself to stand for the National Anthem at the Tennessee fair last weekend. The video has since gone viral.

Avery Price has a disease very similar to cerebral palsy but said he wanted to show his patriotism despite his limitations. Why was that important to him? He explained it with seven simple words – “I like to stand for my country.”

Oof. That’s the equivalent of a blindside hit on the America-hating NFL players who choose to kneel and disrespect our nation.

“He’s a very, very patriotic kid … He’s always been that way,” his father explained.

Leah Norris, a woman sitting nearby who captured Avery’s patriotic display said, “This goes to show that if he can stand for his country, so can you.”

So can you, football players. (RELATED: NFL Kicks Off Preseason With Players Kneeling, Raising Fists).

Looks like Avery has something people like Kaepernick, Miami Dolphins wide receiver Kenny Stills, Philadelphia Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins, and his teammate defensive end Michael Bennett don’t have – heart.

Price has since been enjoying some fame and benefits that come along with being a national example of patriotism.

State Representative Ryan Williams hand-delivered a flag to Avery at his school, where classmates and teachers gave him a standing ovation.

“The world could use more Avery Prices,” Williams said.

He even had Cookeville Mayor Ricky Shelton declare August 10th to be “Avery Price Day.”

“One of the most touching things I’ve ever seen,” Norris said on her post. “I’m not sure who this boy or his family is, or if it’ll ever reach them again. But his parents are raising a fine young man.”

It’s reached them alright, but perhaps, more importantly, it’s reached the rest of the nation which needs to be reminded that heroes come from all walks of life, not just on the playing field. Today’s NFL players need to be taught that lesson.

Except maybe, Dallas Cowboys quarterback, Dak Prescott.

While his fellow players continue to embarrass themselves, Prescott has stood out by contrast as a man who courageously defends the National Anthem.

“I never protest during the anthem, and I don’t think that’s the time or the venue to do so,” he said.

Dak added, “I’ve always believed standing up for what I believe in, and that’s what I’m going to continue to do.”

Just like little Avery Price.
