Former Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl is the luckiest man in the world.
The disgraced soldier just avoided getting jail time for deserting his comrades in Afghanistan, and leading them on fruitless search that cost six men their lives.
The Associated Press broke the story earlier this morning:
BREAKING: Judge rules that Bowe Bergdahl should serve no prison time for endangering comrades by walking off his Afghanistan post.

Washington Examiner also reports: “Bowe Bergdahl to get dishonorable discharge, lose rank, forfeit pay in addition to getting no prison time.”
Bergdahl, who argued that President Trump’s harsh words about him necessitated a lighter sentence, will avoid the slammer for now. It looks like his defense worked.
The New York Times reported earlier this week: “’I will consider the president’s comments as mitigation evidence as I arrive at an appropriate sentence,’ the judge, Col. Jeffery R. Nance of the Army, said during a hearing at Fort Bragg.”
This judge’s ruling is, in a word, nonsense.
Since returning to the U.S., Bergdahl has been virtually unrepentant for his crimes. He even said his treatment as a prisoner in Afghanistan was better than his treatment in the U.S. That’s a bunch of baloney from an ungrateful traitor. But what else can we expect from a man who Obama said served his country with honor and distinction.
Conservatives were aghast at the news over Twitter:
I was just informed on air by Tony Katz that Bowe Bergdahl walks. I'm livid. This is a disgrace. I am ashamed of the Army, but never of the troops – just the Army officer corps that has so disgracefully let us down.

They’re all right. Bergdahl should have served time for his selfish decision. You don’t abandon your post during war. Period. Bergdahl should be in jail. It’s a shame he’ll get the Hillary Clinton treatment in the end.
