This One Black Lives Matter Video From Dallas Will Restore Your Faith In Humanity

Nobody should want cops executed. That should go without saying. But nobody should want innocent people or even suspects who posed no threat killed by police, either.

As stupidly as someone acts during a police encounter, and as much as an officer may genuinely fear for their life and mistake a wallet for a gun, surely we can all agree that it is a terrible result for a human life to end in this way – not just for the dead, but for their family, their friends, and even for the officer.

There’s got to be a better way. But how can we resolve anything when tensions are so high, the flames of racial discord are fanned by agitators and politicians, and everyone is arguing and blaming each other? Two opposite groups in Dallas just took the first step.

In this video courtesy of CNN, a Black Lives Matter march meets with those counter-protesting them and the results are not what you’d expect. We see people from the two groups hugging, talking, and then praying with each other. “This is how you kick down a wall!” someone says.

One protester says, “Today we’re going to show the rest of the country how we came together.” The rest of the country is watching and is inspired. People are so hungry for hope and healing after such a destructive and divisive week that the video has been shared over a million times and watched 40 million times within 15 hours of being posted on Facebook.

This is the real America. This is how things get better – at the local level, with neighbors hugging neighbors and praying together. After years of Obama pitting Americans against each other, we need to recognize each other’s humanity, and I pray this can be the start of real progress in this country.
