On Friday, HBO’s Bill Maher took on one of his favorite punching bags – the woke left – saying that China really confuses them and that the woke ideology makes it impossible to criticize the totalitarian regime.

Maher made his remarks during the opening monologue of his program “Real Time.”

Maher: ‘Chinese are Asians and Asians are not white. So, if you criticize them, it’s racism’

Maher told viewers, “It’s funny, I was mentioning you can’t get Grindr anymore in China. They are putting Uyghurs into camps. It’s a 1984 surveillance state.”

Then Maher criticized “woke” progressives’ inability to criticize China.

“It’s — there’s just so much wrong with China, and yet, it’s an issue that really confuses the woke,” Maher said. “Because Chinese are Asians and Asians are not white. So, if you criticize them, it’s racism.”

If this assessment sounds ridiculous, Maher assured his viewers it was a reality.

“That’s — I mean, that’s really where we are with the level of thinking with a lot of people in the country.”

Maher is no stranger to poking at progressives, as a progressive himself.

In late January, “The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg was angry at some of Maher’s remarks about COVID-19 and criticized him for being “flippant.”

Goldberg aired a clip of Maher’s opening monologue in which he said, “I don’t want to live in your paranoid world anymore — your masked, paranoid world.”

“You go out — it’s silly now,” Maher continued. “You know you have to have your mask, you have to have a card, you have to have a booster. They scan your head like you’re a cashier and I’m a bunch of bananas.”

Maher added, “I’m not bananas — you are.”

Goldberg responded on ABC, “How dare you be so flippant, man.”

Goldberg Suspended Over Holocaust Remarks

“That’s not really funny to people who have lost their kids,” Goldberg said, adding, “or people who have lost family members or dear friends to this.”

“Listen, nobody on the planet really wants to go through this,” Goldberg continued. “This is not something we’re doing because it’s sexually gratifying. This is what we’re doing to protect our families.”

“You don’t have to do it, but stay away from everybody,” she said.

Goldberg was recently suspended for two weeks from “The View” for controversial comments she made arguing that the Holocaust was just “white people doing it to white people” and “not about race.”
