Bill de Blasio: A Tax Increase Won’t Drive Millionaires Out of New York City

Don’t you find it weird that after President Trump and the Republican Congress passed their version of tax reform, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio wanted to increase taxes in order to fix the subway system?

In de Blasio’s arrogance, he also believes that if he taxes millionaires at a higher rate, they won’t leave the city. This is the disconnect political leaders have from working people. Millionaires do not have to live in New York City, and as the economy improves in 2018, they could relocate to other states and continue to make money and create jobs.

A similar tax increase was done in New Jersey and many millionaires left the state. Sure, some wealthy individuals still live in New Jersey, but plenty got the message that they weren’t wanted, so they made a move. I agree with de Blasio that the Big Apple is different, but does he really think nobody will leave after taxes are increased? I mean, why stay in a city where you are being made an example of because you work hard and create jobs for others and the local government wants to bleed you dry?

“The difference between Jersey and New York — and I’m not an expert on what they went through — but the difference for sure is look, we see a steady stream of very successful people who want to live in New York City. You’re an example,” he told wealthy supermarket mogul John Catsimatidis during a radio interview Sunday. “There’s a lot of other people who are really devoted to living in New York City because of all we have to offer.”

De Blasio predicted if such a tax were put into place by the state millionaires wouldn’t “only live here for half a year because of tax issues.”

“I don’t fear a negative outcome,” he added.

What de Blasio is referring to in the interview is New Jersey’s 8.97 percent tax on residents earning more than $1 million, according to data from the New Jersey Department of Taxation.

It’s my belief that anyone who votes for a liberal should have all their money taken by the state to be redistributed. After all, it’s what they voted for.

And you know what? The more I think about, the more I realize that New York City truly is a different beast. I thought the residents would have removed de Blasio from office after what he did to the law enforcement community. But he’s still mayor, so maybe he’s right.
