Biden Wants Americans To Keep Wearing Masks Until Everyone Is Vaccinated

On Monday, President Joe Biden said that Americans should wear face masks to stop the spread of COVID-19 “until everyone is, in fact, vaccinated.”

The president made his comments during a White House briefing earlier this week while touting the recently signed COVID relief package.

After speaking about his $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan, Biden said, “I urge all local docs and ministers and priests to talk about why, why it’s important to get that vaccine and even after that, until everyone is, in fact, vaccinated, to wear this mask.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s guidelines do not require masks in all situations.

Here’s What The CDC Mask Guidelines Say

The CDC website updated their guidelines on March 9, 2021 for individuals who have been fully vaccinated.

They instruct: “If you’ve been fully vaccinated: You can gather indoors with fully vaccinated people without wearing a mask.”

The CDC also advises for those vaccinated, “You can gather indoors with unvaccinated people from one other household (for example, visiting with relatives who all live together) without masks, unless any of those people or anyone they live with has an increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19.”

So vaccinated people can gather with vaccinated and unvaccinated people in various settings without masks, according to the CDC.

However, they also recommend masks and social distancing for more public situations, like the workplace:

Biden’s Plan For COVID

When he first entered the White House, Biden urged everyone to wear masks for “100 days” as federal, state and local governments worked on distributing vaccines.

Biden goal has also been to reach 100 million vaccine shots in his administration’s first 100 days.

“I’m asking the American people to mask up for the first 100 days,” Biden said in January. We are now about six weeks from that date.

In February, President Biden suggested Americans might need to wear masks until 2022. “You know that wearing this mask through the next year here can save lives — a significant number of lives,” the president told reporters.

There is good news that should be emphasized: The Biden administration had set a goal of administering 100 million vaccine shots within the president’s first 100 days in office.

According to the New York Times’ world COVID-19 tracker, over 109 million doses have been administered in the United States as of this writing.
