Biden Under Harsh Scrutiny for Babbling Responses, Possible Dental Issue

Former Vice President Joe Biden may have tried to come out with guns blazing during Thursday night’s Democratic debate in Houston, but he repeatedly rambled in his responses to questions and also, at one point, seemed to suffer a dental-related malfunction that had the internet buzzing (and has kept it buzzing on Friday morning) — even from those on the liberal side.

The presidential candidate, who is 76, faced a steady stream of attacks from his opponents, notably Julian Castro, the former Housing secretary under Barack Obama — who pointedly jabbed at Biden over his memory.

Castro said to Biden at one point, “I know that the problem with your [health care] plans is that it leaves 10 million people uncovered … Barack Obama’s vision was not to leave 10 million people uncovered.”

After Biden pushed back, Castro jabbed, “Are you forgetting what you just said two minutes ago?”

The strong exchanges were not surprising. It was the first time the top Democratic candidates were all on stage together — so the opportunity was ripe for those lower in the polling to go after him.

But Biden, when discussing segregation in this country, acknowledged the existence of “institutional segregation” and then proposed tripling the amount of federal money that “poor schools” receive.

He also said teachers should get raises — and that “problems from home” need to be addressed. He said very young children should have the option to attend school at three and four years old — “not daycare.”

And shortly after that, Biden talked about how American families should spend evenings together so that children are exposed to plenty of dialogue: “Play the radio, make sure the television — excuse me, make sure you have the record player on at night.”

That had people scratching their heads and elicited more than a few comments on social media about his advanced age.

Then, when answering a question from ABC News anchor David Muir, Biden seemed to suffer some sort of odd oral issue — which lit up social media even more.
