Biden Says It’s ‘Probably Premature’ To Get Rid Of COVID Mask Mandates

On Sunday, President Joe Biden said it is “probably premature” to end coronavirus mask mandates.

Biden made his remarks during an interview with NBC’s Lester Holt, part of which aired on Super Bowl Sunday.

Biden’s Take On Ending Mask Mandates

Democratic governors have begun to end mask restrictions in their states, but Biden said it was “probably premature” yet was still a “tough call” to make.

Praising vaccine availability and distribution, Biden said, “Every day that goes by, children are more protected.”

“The more protection they have, probably you’re going to see less and less requirement to have the masks,” the president added.

Recall that at the end of 2020, Biden promoted a plan for “just” 100 days of masking in the United States.

“Wear your mask for just 100 days,” Biden said in December 2020. “It’s the easiest thing you can do to reduce COVID cases, hospitalizations, and death.”

“Whatever your politics or point of view — mask up for 100 days,” Biden advised Americans at the time. “Once we take office…100 days to make a difference.”

“It’s not a political statement; it’s a patriotic act,” he added.

Biden on Americans’ responsibility in mask wearing: ‘I think it is part of your patriotic duty’

Obviously Americans have been asked or forced to mask for well over 100 days.

At one point the CDC urged even those who had been vaccinated to wear masks as the Omicron variant spread, then later admitted that cloth masks are not as effective in stopping the spread or contraction of COVID-19 as other types of mask, including N-95.

Biden said during a White House speech in January, “As I’ve said in the last two years: Please wear a mask. It’s not that comfortable. It’s a pain in the neck.”

Biden would add, “I think it is part of your patriotic duty.”
