Biden Reportedly Considering Andrew Cuomo For Attorney General

Disturbing new reports are coming in stating that former Vice President Joe Biden is considering naming New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) as his attorney general.

Cuomo Makes Biden’s Attorney General Shortlist

A person familiar to the matter confirmed that Cuomo has made Biden’s shortlist for this position, according to Bloomberg. Other names on this list include Alabama Senator Doug Jones, U.S. Circuit Court Judge Merrick Garland and former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates.

If Cuomo is indeed chosen to fill this role, it would be his second time working in a presidential administration, with his first being when he served as the Housing and Urban Development secretary during Bill Clinton’s presidency.

Cuomo’s path to actually being confirmed as attorney general should Biden choose him, however, would be rocky at best, since he would have opponents on both sides of the aisle.

In the nine years that Cuomo has been governor of New York, he has signed into law same-sex marriage, a $15 minimum wage and restrictions on guns. Despite this, there are some Democrats who feel that Cuomo has not been nearly progressive enough.

Cuomo Has Handled COVID-19 Horribly As A Governor

Though Cuomo has received praise for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic from the left, those on the right feel that he has arguably handled this crisis worse than anyone. Earlier this year, he signed an order forcing nursing homes to take in patients who had tested positive for coronavirus, which only led to countless deaths among the elderly.

Cuomo claimed last month that his sole focus at the moment is on being governor of New York.

“Look, I said to New Yorkers when Covid first started my only agenda is New York. I’m not running for president, not running for vice president, not going to Washington.” Cuomo said, according to Forbes.

“This is going to be a long road for New Yorkers,” he added. “I want them to have total trust in what I’m saying. I have no agenda but being New York governor, and I’m going to stay here and finish the job.”
