Biden Inauguration Committee Says Ceremony Will Be ‘Extremely Limited’ – Tells People To Stay Home

Throughout President-Elect Joe Biden’s campaign, if you can even call it that, he was plagued by low crowds and lackluster energy at best. Now, his inauguration committee has made it clear that his inauguration ceremony will be much of the same thing, and they are already trying to get ahead of it.

Biden’s Inauguration Committee Releases Statement

The Presidential Inaugural Committee released a statement on Tuesday saying that Biden will be sworn in on January 20 in a downsized ceremony at the U.S. Capitol featuring “vigorous health and safety protocols.”

“The ceremony’s footprint will be extremely limited, and the parade that follows will be reimagined,” the statement added.

“Our goal is to create an inauguration that keeps people safe, honors the grand traditions of the Presidency, and showcases the Biden-Harris Administration’s renewed American vision for an inclusive, equitable, and unified citizenry,” added Tony Allen, the committee’s chief executive.

The committee went on to say that it is determined to keep the crowd size down by “urging the public to refrain from any travel and participate in the inaugural activities from home.”

Biden Struggled To Bring In Crowds

However, given how much Biden struggled to bring in crowds while campaigning, it seems that calling on people to stay home from this inauguration likely is not necessary.

“President-elect Biden’s unwavering commitment to the safety of the American people is our North Star as we plan an inauguration that protects public health while honoring inaugural traditions and engaging Americans across the country,” event director Maju Varghese added.

“We are excited to share more information soon about the new and innovative ways all Americans can watch and participate in a historic inauguration that will unify our country,” Varghese added.

CNN reported that anyone who attends Biden’s inauguration must wear masks and maintain social distance within “ticketed parameters.” There is also reportedly an “ongoing discussion about requiring COVID-19 tests for anyone who will stand on the main platform near the President-elect, who is 78.”

Deep down, Biden’s inauguration committee knows that he will never have even close to the amount of enthusiasm that Donald Trump has. They can urge people to stay home as much as they want to, but the vast majority of us were never going to come to Biden’s inauguration anyway.
