Actress and singer Bette Midler has finally backed down and apologized after receiving a ton of backlash for mocking the accent of First Lady Melania Trump during her speech at the Republican National Convention earlier this week.
Midler took to Twitter during Melania’s speech to brand her as an “illegal alien,” adding, “Oh, God. She still can’t speak English.”
Not stopping there, Midler compared Melania to a mail-order bride.
“I’m surprised Trump wants to destroy the #PostOffice. He got all his wives from it,” she said.
Midler was accused of racism and xenophobia for her tweets, with her post about Melania’s English-speaking abilities landing her in particularly hot water.
“Oh, God. Bette Midler’s a racist,” tweeted British television personality Piers Morgan.

Many others blasted Midler for this as well.
“There is no one as racist and xenophobic as the tolerant left. To think that when I was growing up in Africa I fiercely admired you and many others who now are showing how low and hateful they can be. I’m ashamed for you,” one social media user said.
“She speaks 6 languages, English is one of them. How about you?” another person tweeted, with a third writing, “Oh hey look everyone…a washed up, dumpy old lady racist.”
“As a Mexican immigrant I am very offended at your prejudice!” someone else commented. “My hard working parents with accents love and value this country! We put everything into what we do and do not expect to be treated unfairly because we may not sound like you ! Practice what you preach!”
At first, Midler refused to back down in the face of the backlash.
“Why not? Just giving them a taste of their own immigrant bashing medicine,” she tweeted. “I guess they’re not keen.”
Hours later, however, Midler was singing a very different tune.
“Well, all hell has broken loose because I said Melania ‘still can’t speak English’ last night,” she tweeted on Wednesday afternoon. “I was wrong to make fun of her accent. America is made up people who speak with all kinds of accents, and they are all welcomed always.”
There’s nothing like seeing a racist, liberal hypocrite get put in her place!

Unbelievably despicable!
The apology falls on deaf ears...We know how she thinks now. Her apology just trys to cover her racist comment up. Too much , too little , too late. Racism is everywhere. Always has been, always will be. Dont kid yourself. Slavery didnt start with the blacks either. Many BC years had jews building the pyramids, etc, etc, etc....And the blacks now shouldnt get paid for what happened to their relatives. They have got way better from those days and now that generation is gone basically.Just get on with it and live your life. Do something about the trouble makers that are making your race look terrible. Peace out. All lives matter , especially the unborn of all races.
The apology was needed, but still, we all know how Bette Midler really feels, because she knowingly, and freely chose, to let the "cat" out of the bag, showing her TDS, which is just this side of lunacy. Plus, is the apology sincere, or is Midler just doing a quick "CYA"?....
