Government watchdog group Judicial Watch recently released 42 pages of heavily redacted State Department documents that they say the Obama Administration leaked to Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.), the ranking Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, in an effort to undermine President Donald Trump just days before his inauguration.

The released documents include news reports on Russian government officials working to forge relationships with far-right parties in Germany, France, and Austria, as well as details of Russian efforts to undermine sanctions placed on it by the European Union, disrupt the 2016 parliamentary elections in Montenegro, and create rifts between the U.S. and Turkey.
However, the documents do not appear to mention Trump or detail alleged Russian interference in the United States election. Even so, Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton believes that the intelligence was leaked to Sen. Cardin in effort to undermine Trump. “Judicial Watch will pursue information on who pulled this classified information, who authorized its release, and why was it evidently dumped just days before President Trump’s inauguration,” Fitton said.
Indeed, in March 2017, the New York Times reported that Cardin had requested State Department documents on Russian meddling in elections and shared them with Republican members of the Foreign Relations Committee. That same month, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Evelyn Farkas admitted that she had urged “people on [Capitol] Hill” to “get as much intelligence as you can, before President Obama leaves [office].”
Notably, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer announced Tuesday that Cardin will step down from his role as the top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) will take his place.
Does the Deep State rabbit hole never end? As Fitton suspects, it seems there was or is an anti-Trump mole within the State Department who leaked this classified intelligence to Cardin. Judicial Watch has already uncovered a boatload of damning evidence against officials at the FBI and DOJ, and it’s surely only a matter of time before they find out who’s responsible.
