Ben Affleck is officially done as Batman.
Though rumors have been swirling for some time now, the “Good Will Hunting” and “Argo” star had yet to confirm his departure from DCEU (DC Extended Universe) — which thus far includes movies like “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” “Wonder Woman,” Aquaman,” and the upcoming “Shazam!”
Appearing on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Thursday night, Affleck said his tenure as the caped crusader has come to an end after he failed to put together a script for a solo film about Bruce Wayne/Batman that satisfied both he and Warner Bros.
Affleck was set to direct the movie, but now director Matt Reeves is doing his own version of “The Batman” with a new caped crusader.
The film will be released on June 25, 2021.
Affleck previously endorsed the upcoming movie on Twitter.
“I tried to direct a version of it and worked with a really good screenwriter but just couldn’t come up with a version,” said Affleck.
“I couldn’t crack it, and so I thought it’s time for someone else to take a shot at it. They’ve got some really good people, so I’m excited.”

To commemorate Affleck’s time as the beloved superhero, Kimmel brought out Affleck’s cape and cowl.
The back of the cape was then revealed to say, “Batfleck.”
It also had the number “12.”
When asked about the number, Affleck noted that it’s Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s number.
Affleck is a noted fan of the Patriots.
Affleck starred as Bruce Wayne/Batman in 2016’s “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Suicide Squad” as well as 2017’s “Justice League.”
Though his time as Batman is over, Affleck will be keeping busy. He next stars in “Triple Frontier,” a film about a group of veterans who decide to rob a drug cartel.
The film will hit limited theaters on March 6 and then debut on Netflix on March 13.
He is also starring in the upcoming films “Torrance” and “The Last Thing He Wanted.”
No actor has officially replaced Affleck, but an announcement is expected before the end of the year.
Previous actors to play the caped crusader include Christian Bale, George Clooney, Val Kilmer, Michael Keaton, and the late Adam West.
