Baltimore’s new Mayor is in trouble for leaked comments she made criticizing an impoverished neighborhood she visited. Video captured Mayor Catherine Pugh going as far as to call for the demolition of the neighborhood.
According to the Baltimore Sun, she said of the neighborhood “What the hell? We should just take all this [expletive] down.”
And then:
“Whoa, you can smell the rats.”
“Whew, Jesus.”
“Oh, my God, you can smell the dead animals.”

She tried to explain her comments away to the Sun: “I walk the neighborhoods of our city regularly with my agency and department leaders, along with our police district commanders, to deal firsthand with the issues that undermine quality of life and rob our children of the future they deserve.”
Responses were mixed, with some seeing the comments as a punch in the gut, while others simply saw them as acknowledging reality. Personally, I think it showcases the kind of bubble that Pugh and other leaders live in. I can count the number of times I’ve been to Baltimore on my right hand, and I’ve smelt much more than rats. How could she seriously be unaware of the condition of large parts of her own city?

I’m glad Mayor Pugh was confronted with the reality of what Baltimore has become. Yes, you have Harbor East, Canton and Fells Point; but then there’s others parts of the city that look like a third world country.

Chicago’s liberal policies have made them notorious for their extreme levels of gun violence, despite having some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation. While the liberal response to the claim that Chicago’s gun control policies are fueling their gun crime is that guns are simply being sourced from surrounding areas outside of Chicago – then why don’t those surrounding areas with lax gun laws have more gun crime?
San Francisco’s cozy policies towards the homeless have caused all sorts of problems. While immigrants of the past saw themselves coming to an America where the streets are paved in gold – an immigrant coming to San Francisco would find themselves in a city where the streets are paved with poop. Literally. The city had to start a “poop patrol” to thwart the problem of people defecating on their streets, and because liberals don’t know how to run cities, a “poop patroller” can expect to earn a six figure salary for some reason.
And Detroit is “exhibit A” in liberalism destroying a city, but they aren’t the only ones:
- Detroit, with a poverty rate of over 40%, hasn’t had a Republican mayor since 1957.
- Chicago hasn’t had a Republican mayor since 1927
- St. Louis hasn’t had a Republican mayor since 1949
- Philadelphia hasn’t had a Republican mayor since 1952
- Baltimore and Oakland haven’t had Republican mayors since the 1960s
- Newark hasn’t had a Republican mayor in over a century
The same is true at the state level when it comes to how well governments are run. In blue states (defined as Democrats controlling both chambers of State Congress), there is an average of $22,214 in unfunded debt. In red states, that taxpayer burden is only $1,473.
