Avenatti Joins a Long List of Democrat Presidential Candidates Accused of Mistreating Women

Michael Avenatti’s arrest for felony domestic violence doesn’t just underscore the hypocrisy of a man who criminally smeared Brett Kavanaugh in an attempt to stop his Supreme Court confirmation, it launches the porn lawyer onto a list of Democrat presidential candidates with a storied history of accusations involving the mistreatment and abuse of women.

Avenatti was arrested Wednesday for felony domestic violence after an unnamed and unidentified woman filed a complaint stating that he struck her, and was later released on $50,000 bail.

Suddenly, a man who just one month earlier had insisted all women ‘must be believed’ when they make accusations, claims we shouldn’t believe this one.

“I have never been physically abusive in my life nor was I last night,” Avenatti insisted. “Any accusations to the contrary are fabricated and meant to do harm to my reputation.”

Unlike Avenatti, we’ll let investigators handle these accusations. In the meantime, the porn lawyer and superstar at CNN joins a sordid history of Democrats with presidential aspirations and a bevy of accusations by women.

Bill Clinton

While the media focused on the consensual extramarital affairs and placed the blame on one woman in particular by labelling his biggest scandal ‘The Lewinsky Affair,’ former President Bill Clinton was accused of non-consensual assaults as well.

Juanita Broaddrick, a former nursing home employee, accused Clinton of raping her decades earlier when he was a gubernatorial candidate in Arkansas.

Kathleen Willey, a former White House aide, also accused Clinton of assault over a groping incident in 1993.

Ted Kennedy

Kennedy’s presidential aspirations were handcuffed by an incident that involved the death of a woman at Chappaquiddick, though he did make an attempt in 1980 when he lost in the Democrat primary to incumbent President Jimmy Carter.

He had been long stigmatized by his friend Mary Jo Kopechne’s death at Chappaquiddick, which he caused by driving drunk off a bridge and fleeing the scene while she drowned in his car.

The ‘lion of the Senate,’ as the media hailed him, was also involved in an infamous incident involving a waitress in 1985.

The Hartford Courant explains what happened:

A waitress, Carla Gaviglio, was summoned to the private dining room by two members of the world’s most deliberative body.

In a lightning strike, Kennedy allegedly picked up Gaviglio and threw her on the table, knocking plates and other items to the floor. He reportedly lifted her up again and put her on top of (Christopher) Dodd, who was seated in a chair. Kennedy then engaged in an attack that continued until another employee entered the room and joined Gaviglio in screaming, causing others to enter the room.

Kennedy would escape punishment for his behavior, going on to be elected to the Senate for four more terms.

Extramarital Affairs

While the above candidates were involved in clearly more obscene and illegal behavior with women, many Democrats have seen their presidential campaigns taken down by allegations of affairs with women.

John Edwards, a frontrunner at one point during the 2008 Democrat primary, was eventually derailed by an extramarital affair with actress Rielle Hunter. The affair produced a child and took place while Edwards wife was battling cancer.

President John F. Kennedy was linked to a number of affairs, the most notable of which involved actress Marilyn Monroe. Biographer Geoffrey Perret once wrote of Kennedy, he “brazenly put his hand up their skirts, propositioned them within minutes of meeting and groped their breasts and buttocks even as he danced with them.”

Gary Hart, a Democratic Senator from Colorado (D-CO), was the front-runner for the 1988 Democratic presidential nomination until he dropped out over allegations of an extramarital affair with Donna Rice. He was photographed with Rice on a boat named ‘Monkey Business’ during a trip to the Bahamas, and subsequently dropped out of the race.

It should be noted that President Trump has a handful of allegations as well.
