At the signing ceremony for Governor Ron DeSantis’ new anti-rioting law on Monday, a Florida sheriff told new residents who moved to the Sunshine State not to “vote the stupid way you did up north.”

“If you look at the breadth of this particular piece of legislation, it is the strongest anti-rioting, pro-law enforcement piece of legislation in the country,” Gov. DeSantis said Monday as he signed the bill that would increase penalties for crimes committed during riots.

Sheriff Judd: ‘Florida Is A Unique Place And A Special Place’

DeSantis said last week of the upcoming legislation, “If you assault law enforcement in a violent assembly, you are definitely going to go to jail. You burn down somebody’s business … The penalties are going to be very swift and immediate.”

But Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd had some remarks of his own to make on Monday.

“Florida is a unique place and a special place. It’s where we work, where we live, but it’s also where the world comes to play, to bring their children — and their children have a right to be safe,” Sheriff Judd said.

The sheriff then compared Florida’s leadership to that of governments like the local authorities in Seattle, Portland, and Minneapolis, where race-tinged protests have turned into violent riots, leaving some communities in flames.

Judd: ‘We’re Going To Protect The People’

“That’s no way to treat the community,” Judd said. “That’s no way to treat those that put their entire life into building their business.”

“We saw folks’ businesses around this nation who literally worked their entire life and had every penny in their life savings involved,” the sheriff said.

He continued, “We’re going to proactive and we’re going to make sure people are safe.”

Judd then showed a picture of a peaceful protest next to a riot to drive home the difference.

“Pay attention, we got a new law and we’re going to use it if you make us. We’re going to protect the people.”

Judd Warns New Residents Not To Turn Florida Into Portland

Sheriff Judd then sang the praises of his state.

“This is what we enjoy in Florida,” he said. “This is the Florida we know and love.”

Judd then had a message for new residents.

“Welcome to Florida!” the sheriff said. “But don’t register to vote and vote the stupid way you did up north, you’ll get what they got!”
