Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, also known as AOC, seemed to suggest Sen. Mitch McConnell and the NRA were to blame for attempted assassinations of NYPD officers.
NYPD Officers Shot in Assassination Attempts
On Saturday night and Sunday morning, a lone gunman fired upon NYPD officers twice in 12 hours in the Bronx, in what officials described as “assassination attempts.” One officer was shot in the chin and neck on Saturday night after the assailant fired off multiple rounds into a marked police van; on Sunday morning at around 7AM, the same man entered the Bronx precinct headquarters and opened fire once again. One lieutentant was shot in the arm, and the offender surrendered when his handgun ran out of bullets, the Washington Post reported.
David Webb, the conservative radio host and commentator, questioned as to why there was no comment from AOC about the NYPD officers who were “shot in her district.”
“This is not my district, but our thoughts are with all officers & people impacted by this shooting & the epidemic of gun violence in this country,” Ocasio-Cortez replied. “Perhaps you would get less mixed up if McConnell stood up to the NRA & passed common-sense gun safety measures to reduce shootings.”

“You Contributed to This Hostile Environment Police Face”
AOC was absolutely slammed online for her response to the NYPD shootings. Kash Jackson, a veteran and a parental rights advocate, said that AOC “contributed to creating this hostile environment police face in New York” by aligning herself “with Anti-Police protesters who don’t want to pay subway fares.”

Burgess Owens, the former NFL player and a Republican candidate for Congress, said that maybe now “isn’t the perfect timing [for AOC] to remind us how clueless you are when it comes to gun laws. Maybe you’re not aware of how strict NY gun laws are, or maybe you’re just trying your best to capitalize on a tragedy and use it for talking points,” adding that her behavior was “disgusting.”

Owens is spot on. No gun laws could have stopped these attacks – the suspect, 45-year-old Robert Williams had a “lengthy violent criminal history,” and would have therefore been banned from owning a firearm in New York State. AOC needs to get it into her head that evil people exist, and if they are determined to kill or do harm, they will. If they can’t use guns, they’ll use knives, or trucks, or bombs. All strict gun laws do is restrict ordinary citizens from protecting themselves against people like Williams.
