Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) ripped the Biden administration for opening what the Washington Post calls a “migrant facility for children,” but stopped short of referring to them as “concentration camps,” as she did when Trump was President.
The Representative from New York said that regardless of who is in power, the migrant facilities are ‘never okay.’
“This is not okay, never has been okay, never will be okay – no matter the administration or party,” AOC tweeted.
She went on to make suggestions for reform to the immigration system in the United States which included such ideas as “DHS (Department of Homeland Security) shouldn’t exist,” and “ICE gotta go.”
Other Squad members joined in the criticism of President Joe Biden’s decision to open the facility.
“Multiple administrations have made the callous choice to lock up thousands of children seeking refuge in the United States of America,” Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) tweeted.
Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) wrote, “Regardless of who’s in the White House, the words ‘migrant facility for children’ shouldn’t be in our government’s vocabulary.”

AOC Tears Into Biden For Migrant Facility
Speaking of vocabulary, isn’t it interesting how both AOC and the Washington Post have softened their language in regards to these migrant facilities?
This is the same Washington Post who previously ran a column alleging that former President Donald Trump “and his party don’t care about the kids in cages.”
Fox News reports that the Post ran similarly-phrased headlines in 2018 such as, “The American tradition of caging children,” and “The real reason we’re locking children in cages.”
The newspaper has clearly morphed from running antagonistic headlines to operating as a PR firm for the President.
Kids in cages is now “migrant facility for children.” https://t.co/AcfgIwFI1m

Note also that AOC thus far hasn’t been freely defining the kids in cages or migrant facilities as “concentration camps,” something she did repeatedly under the Trump administration.
We thought she’d be a little more courageous than that, but oh well.
“That is exactly what they are. They are concentration camps,” she claimed in an Instagram video in 2019.
“I don’t use those words lightly,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “I don’t use those words to just throw bombs.”
“I use that word because that is what an administration that creates concentration camps is. A presidency that creates concentration camps is fascist and it’s very difficult to say that.”
Well AOC, your President Biden just created his own ‘fascist concentration camp.’

Biden Helped Build Those Cages
This isn’t the first time AOC has downplayed President Biden and his role in opening migrant facilities for children.
In announcing her support for his campaign last year, the New York Democrat referenced Trump and his use of the cages.
“I think, you know, I think right now just the stakes are too high when it comes to another four years of Trump,” AOC suggested.
“My community especially has been so impacted, and it’s, you know, for a lot of communities, this is an issue of life and death,” she fretted. “We’ve had kids in cages.”
It’s only 2 mos into this admin & our fraught, unjust immigration system will not transform in that time.
That’s why bold reimagination is so impt.
DHS shouldn’t exist, agencies should be reorganized, ICE gotta go, ban for-profit detention, create climate refugee status & more.

Thomas Homan, the executive associate director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) under the Obama-Biden administration, says he was there when they were building cages to house illegal immigrants.
“I’ve been to that facility, where they talk about cages. That facility was built under President Obama under Secretary Jeh Johnson,” Homan explained at a conference hosted by the Center for Immigration Studies. “I was there when it was built.”
White House press secretary Jen Psaki defended the administration’s decision to open the migrant facility in Texas, claiming it is simply a “temporary reopening during COVID-19” and not “kids in cages.”
“These are facilities,” Psaki said. “Let me be clear here, one, there is a pandemic going on.”
“This is not kids being kept in cages,” she continued. “This is a facility that was opened that is going to follow the same standards as other HHS facilities. It is not a replication. Certainly not.”
Peter Doocy just asked why Biden is opening up new “cages” for children at the border when he and Kamala referred to it as “human rights abuse” in 2019 when Trump was in office.@PressSec then repeatedly lied, blamed COVID-19, and claimed it is different when Biden does it. pic.twitter.com/IQuGRnwmi6

Mark Weber, a spokesman for the Department of Health and Human Services, told the Washington Post “the facilities received a bad rap under the Trump administration … But the children always received good care and that never wavered between administrations.”
Huh. You never would have known it over the bulk of the past four years.
