AOC Screams for Impeachment While Gabbard Says Such an Action Would ‘Tear’ the ‘Country Apart’

By PoliZette Staff | September 8, 2019

Democratic squad member Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) said this weekend the president should be impeached for a range of reasons — but Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) said in a new interview airing on Sunday that she opposes an impeachment inquiry because that would “tear our country apart.”

AOC’s latest call for the impeachment of President Donald Trump comes amid reports of a House investigation into a military stop made at his Scottish golf club, the Turnberry resort.

“The president is corrupt and must be impeached,” the socialist Democrat insisted on Twitter on Friday.

Her tweet was in response to news that a U.S. military air crew slept over at Trump’s Turnberry golf resort in Scotland early this year — “fueling Democrats’ suspicions that he is profiting from government use of his properties,” as The New York Post reported about the Democratic upset over this news.

But military flights making stopovers in Scotland are not unusual, noted The Anchorage Daily News — and there were no rooms closer to the airport, an Air Force spokesman said Saturday in an emailed statement to the Associated Press.

Here’s the AOC tweet on the matter:

“As our aircrews serve on these international airlift missions, they follow strict guidelines on contracting for hotel accommodations and all expenditures of taxpayer dollars,” Brig Gen Edward Thomas wrote to the Associated Press.

“In this case, they made reservations through the Defense Travel System and used the closest available and least expensive accommodations to the airfield within the crews’ allowable hotel rates.”

Gabbard, still a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, on the other hand, told Greta Van Susteren for her new show “Full Court Press” that it’s “important for us to think about what is in the best interest of the country and the American people, and continuing to pursue impeachment is something that I think will only further tear our country apart,” as The Hill reported and Fox News referenced.

Several other 2020 Democratic hopefuls — including Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) — have said they support impeachment inquiries.
