AOC Says Jim Crow-Style Laws Are Embraced In Texas And Florida

Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says that believes Jim Crow-style laws are being embraced in Republican-led states like Texas and Florida, and also said the GOP  wants to “replace teaching history with institutionalized propaganda from white-nationalist perspectives in our schools.”

The far-left progressive made her remarks in a recent interview with The New Yorker.

AOC: ‘I think we will return to Jim Crow. I think that’s what we risk’

AOC told the publication that democracy in the United States could die ten years from now.

“What we risk is having a government that perhaps postures as a democracy, and may try to pretend that it is, but isn’t,” Ocasio-Cortez said, claiming that “white-nationalist, reactionary politics” is “starting to grow into a critical mass.”

Then she predicted the return of segregationist Jim Crow laws.

“I think we will look like ourselves,” the Democrat said. “I think we will return to Jim Crow. I think that’s what we risk.”

Ocasio-Cortez pointed to election integrity laws Republicans have passed in red states like Florida and Texas, which she sees as oppressive.

“You have it already happening in Texas, where Jim Crow-style disenfranchisement laws have already been proposed,” AOC said. “You had members of the state legislature, just a few months ago, flee the state in order to prevent such voting laws from being passed.”

Republicans Want To ‘replace teaching history with institutionalized propaganda from white-nationalist perspectives in our schools’

Ocasio-Cortez was referring to the Texas Democratic leaders legislature who left their state last summer to protest of the GOP’s efforts to strengthen election integrity.

AOC then defended critical race theory and attacked conservatives criticisms of it.

“You have the complete erasure and attack on our own understanding of history, to replace teaching history with institutionalized propaganda from white-nationalist perspectives in our schools,” she added.

“This is what the scaffolding of Jim Crow was,” Ocasio-Cortez claimed.
