AOC Says $3.5 Trillion Bill Shouldn’t Be About Numbers, After Democrats Repeatedly Argue It Costs $0

AOC insists the Democrats' $3.5 trillion spending bill shouldn't be about numbers even as others in her party try to convince the American people it will cost nothing.

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) insists the Democrats’ $3.5 trillion spending bill shouldn’t be about numbers even as others in her party try to convince the American people it will cost nothing.

In an interview with CBS News, Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) was asked about a $1.5 trillion compromise on the spending measure, something moderate Democrat Senator Joe Manchin has proposed, but fellow Squad member Rep. Primala Jayapal has insisted is “too small.”

“President Biden … says you’re going to have to settle for about $2 trillion,” anchor Margaret Brennan said to AOC. “Is that an acceptable ceiling for you?”

$3.5 million. $1.5 million. $2 million. Who cares, its only taxpayer money, right?

The New York socialist shifted direction immediately.

“So here’s – here’s where I think the problem is,” she replied. “It’s that when we talk about top-line numbers, there’s a lot that is – is hidden in that discussion.”

AOC continued, “And so the reason why this – this conversation shouldn’t be about numbers, but it should be about what substantive programs are – are willing to be excluded.”

AOC: Spending Bill Isn’t About Numbers

A little further along in her answer, AOC seemed to suggest numbers in the spending bill could be fudged to mean just about anything anyway.

“Washington math is notoriously funny and you can make a $3 trillion – you can make a $1 trillion bill into $2 trillion, you can make a $3 trillion bill that helps fewer people, etc.,” she said.

“And so that’s why we really need to talk about the substance of this.”

That’s odd because, despite AOC’s claim that we should ignore the numbers in the $3.5 trillion spending bill, her Democrat colleagues have spent an inordinate amount of time trying to convince people it will cost “zero” dollars for some reason.

“My Build Back Better Agenda costs zero dollars,” President Biden tweeted last weekend, claiming he would use tax enforcement and eliminate tax breaks for ‘the wealthy’ to pay for his social programs.

“And it adds zero dollars to the national debt,” he emphasized.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, like AOC, tried to take the focus off of dollar amounts regarding the spending bill, though she couldn’t help but make the same outrageous claim Biden had.

“It’s not about a dollar amount,” she told reporters. “The dollar amount, as the president said, is zero. This bill will be paid for.”

Even the Washington Post’s resident fact-checker Glenn Kessler has called the Democrat talking point a “mythical zero.”

AOC’s Fuzzy Math

Perhaps AOC wants to take the focus off the dollar signs and math involved in a $3.5 trillion spending bill because she’s just not very good with numbers.

It wasn’t that long ago that the Washington Post claimed Ocasio-Cortez has “a tendency to exaggerate or misstate basic facts” and that her defense for spreading falsehoods was “very bad.”

That was in response to her false claim that the Pentagon had wasted $21 trillion which could have been better spent on Medicare-for-all.

The Democrat congresswoman didn’t appreciate being fact-checked on her very shaky math skills, by the way.

We’re not quite sure why AOC would suddenly be concerned about price tags anyway.

This is, after all, the same woman who showed up to a $30,000/ticket event wearing a “tax the rich” dress made by a designer who is perpetually unwilling to pay her taxes.

One can only hope she wasn’t this bad with math, numbers, and handling money when she worked as a bartender.
