AOC Mocks Republican Senator Tillis Over ‘Conservative’ Dog Name

Republican Sen. Thom Tillis said that he named his dog after former President Theodore Roosevelt, and added that he names all of his dogs "after conservatives."

On Monday, Republican Sen. Thom Tillis said that he named his dog after former President Theodore Roosevelt, and added that he names all of his dogs “after conservatives.”

But, as Democratic Congresswomen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez quickly pointed out, Roosevelt was a founder of the Progressive Party also known as the “Bull Moose” party.

AOC: ‘He Should Name His Next One Bull Moose’ aka The Progressive Party

After a picture of Tillis holding his dog was shared on Twitter, Ocasio-Cortez responded to a photo of Tillis holding his dog, Theo, as in Roosevelt, the North Carolina Republican said he names all of his dogs “after conservatives.”

AOC tweeted in response, “He should name his next one Bull Moose.”

Fox News observed, “Roosevelt spent most of his political career as a Republican and was a member of the party during his two terms in the White House from 1901 to 1909.”

“But he formed the Bull Moose Party, also known as the Progressive Party, following an unsuccessful bid for the Republican Party’s presidential nomination in 1912,” Fox News added.

‘Roosevelt Championed Many Policies Embraced By Modern Progressives’

The story also noted, “Roosevelt championed many policies embraced by modern progressives, including expanded federal regulations, environmental conservation, antitrust action and increased labor rights.”

Left activists pounced on Tillis and his name choice.

“He led the progressive party,” Twitter user Sarah Flourance, JD wrote. “The only way in which he was conservative even by 1900s standards was if Tillis is referring to his conservation work.”

Fun Devil wrote, “Cute… but Tillis clearly missed the lesson on Teddy Roosevelt and the whole founding of the the Progressive Party aka the Bull Moose Party. Homie wasn’t a conservative….”

Teddy Roosevelt was pretty liberal so…” wrote Drew Savicki.

No doubt, Sen. Thom Tillis has not heard the end of this yet.
