AOC Nominates Socialist Bernie Sanders At DNC Convention

On Tuesday, Democratic Congresswoman and self-described socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez seemed to snub presumptive Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden.

During her speech at the Democrat National Convention, she nominated Senator Bernie Sanders instead.

Ocasio-Cortez began her speech by saying, “Good evening, bienvenidos, and thank you to everyone here today endeavoring toward a better, more just future for our country and our world, in fidelity and gratitude to a mass people’s movement working to establish 21st-century social, economic and human rights, including guaranteed health care, higher education, living wages and labor rights for all people in the United States.”

AOC said Sen. Sanders represents turning ‘away from the violence and xenophobia of our past’

“A movement striving to recognize and repair the wounds of racial injustice, colonization, misogyny and homophobia,” Ocasio-Cortez continued.

“And to propose and build reimagined systems of immigration and foreign policy that turn away from the violence and xenophobia of our past.”

“A movement that realizes the unsustainable brutality of an economy that rewards explosive inequalities of wealth for the few, at the expense of long-term stability for the many,” she said. “And who organized a historic, grass roots campaign to reclaim our democracy.”

Ocasio-Cortez says Bernie wants to ‘reclaim our democracy’

“In a time when millions of people in the United States are looking for deep systemic solutions to our crisis of mass evictions, unemployment, and lack of health care, en el espíritu del pueblo, and out of a love for all people, I hereby second the nomination of Senator Bernard Sanders of Vermont for president of the United States of America,” she declared.

Ocasio-Cortez’s promoting Sanders as a leader who campaigns “to reclaim our democracy” is worth considering in light of the socialist senator also praising ruthless communist dictators like Fidel Castro.

Sen. Sanders: ‘Joe Biden will become the most progressive president since’ FDR

While many commenters were shocked that AOC would nominate Bernie Sanders, it was actually part of the program.

Presidential nomination conventions have many arcane rules. Since Bernie Sanders had locked up a ton of delegates during the campaign, he needed to be officially nominated in order to release his delegates to Biden.

For his part, Joe Biden has said that as president he would be one of the most “progressive” presidents in American history, a sentiment Sen. Sanders has agreed with.

“Joe Biden will become the most progressive president since Franklin Delano Roosevelt,” Sanders said on Sunday. “And that, in this moment, is what we need.”
