Last night, an upstart socialist beat out the Democrat political machine in Queens, New York City.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a former bartender, and organizer for Bernie Sanders’s failed presidential campaign beat out incumbent Rep. Joseph Crowley in an impressive 10-plus point victory.
Today, news outlets and liberal media – or do I repeat myself? – are going absolutely bonkers over Ocasio-Cortez’s victory, fawning over her youthful pep and strident progressive message. And her platform is nothing to scoff at: With a guaranteed federal jobs program, Medicare-for-all, and the abolition of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, it’s just short of a full-blown Marxist manual on how to abolish capitalism. While Ocasio-Cortez’s stunning win portends a political future where the young inherit the power of the old, it also contains a darker premonition. Ocasio-Cortez isn’t your average Democrat, providing a counterweight to normal Republicans. She’s a radical. Her ideas, and her coterie signify a radical break from the American tradition.
Ocasio-Cortez proudly affiliates with the loosely-organized group Democrat Socialists. The group’s website and policy goals are standard socialist fare that would make great fodder at a typical Bernie rally. The usual tropes are there: free medical care, free education, free birth control, free everything.
There’s a reason Ocasio-Cortez is popular with Democrat Socialists. It’s hard to distinguish between her campaign and their purported beliefs. Take a look at the following video:
This video of @Ocasio2018 seeing the election results live on NY1 is wonderful. And nice @DemSocialists t-shirt in the background. Thank you @nycdsa for helping to make this happen!!! pic.twitter.com/GRNYY0GlZv

And that’s not all. Remember Occupy Wall Street, the short-lived liberal movement that sought to tear down the financial system and only made a mess of an NYC public park? Well, it’s back, in the form of Ocasio-Cortez backers.
To get the crowd to quiet down at the @Ocasio2018 victory party, the speaker is yelling mic check — crowd yelling back mic check.
For you kids, this is from Occupy.
Occupy is coming to Congress.

If Occupy is coming to Congress, does that mean the feces-ridden shanty towns are coming to? I don’t think the Capitol Hill cleaning crew will appreciate homeless hippies bathing in Capitol washrooms.
Ocasio-Cortez is already hitting the news circuits, making the kind of amateur mistakes you made when you’re young, passionate, and wholly inexperienced with how government actually works.
Take a look at how she describes ICE detainment centers:
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez just claimed on CNN that ICE is running “black sites” on the border. When pressed on what exactly that means she clarifies that the secrecy around the childhood facilities justifies the term… pic.twitter.com/VKpXntY616

And earlier on “Morning Joe,” she tried to explain how she’d pay for her big-spending agenda, only to absolutely fail:
Sorry to be the wet blanket, guys. When asked by @WillieGeist today about whether tax hikes would pay for @Ocasio2018‘s agenda (universal medidcare, free post-HS ed, forgive student loans, etc). Her reply was confident, articulate incoherence.

Asked if tax hikes was how she’d fund her agenda, @Ocasio2018 replied:
“Not only that, but also to understand that the federal government does have the ability in the similar way that we had in the New Deal to spearhead this agenda and some of that financing as well.”

That’s around 8:30 https://t.co/bxfJDoxHAp
Sorry, that’s nonsense and just because you say it without stuttering doesn’t render the statement sound.

Like much of the Democrat Socialist agenda, it’s all sound and fury, signifying nothing. This is bad for our nation because it provides an unrealistic portrayal of what governing is and provides easy solutions when there are none.
This is an embarrassment for the Democratic Party. And, since she’ll likely win in November, it’s bad news for the country as a whole.
