Upset by the Trump victory, and subsequent winning enjoyed by conservatives (like the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called for the abolition of the Electoral College. She’s even putting a more extreme spin on it, calling it part of the slave power, or something. Given that there are no longer any slaves in America, if the Electoral College were indeed created for that purpose, it certainly failed.
It is well past time we eliminate the Electoral College, a shadow of slavery’s power on America today that undermines our nation as a democratic republic. https://t.co/00HZN3MI6F

Cortez seems to be little more than a gaffe machine. And on that note, here are five of my favorite gaffes since she’s entered the public sphere:
The Inaugurated Representative: Speaking at her alma mater Boston University, Cortez indicated that she believes she’ll be “inaugurated” into office like a president if she wins her race, and will be personally signing legislation. “It doesn’t mean you get everything tomorrow. As much as I would love that, I would love to get inaugurated January 3rd [and] January 4th we’re signing health care, we’re signing this.”
To paraphrase a GEICO commercial: that’s not how any of this works.

Uber-Hypocrisy: Cortez has blamed cab driver suicides on Uber for uprooting their livelihood. FEC filings indicate that her campaign spent nearly $4,000 on 160 rides for staff in California between April and late June.
NYC's fourth driver suicide. Yellow cab drivers are in financial ruin due to the unregulated expansion of Uber. What was a living wage job now pays under minimum.
We need:
– to call Uber drivers what they are: EMPLOYEES, not contractors
– Fed jobs guarantee
– Prep for automation https://t.co/FjfapJV2ni— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@Ocasio2018) March 21, 2018
Debates Are “Harassment:” In response to being offered $10,000 to debate conservative pundit Ben Shapiro, Cortez compared to gesture to catcalling. I’m sure women that have actually ben catcalled wish they could only be so lucky as to receive 10 grand per occurrence.
Just like catcalling, I don’t owe a response to unsolicited requests from men with bad intentions.
And also like catcalling, for some reason they feel entitled to one. pic.twitter.com/rsD17Oq9qe

Minimum Wage Madness: Much like her hero Bernie Sanders, Cortez would like a national $15 minimum wage across America. What’s the worst that could happen? In addition to the countless studies showing such a policy would cost millions of jobs, Cortez has some anecdotal evidence in that a $15 minimum wage is forcing her former employer to close. The Shop’s co-owner and president Charles Milite told the New York Post that climbing rents, as well as minimum wage hikes, were responsible for the closure.
The restaurant I used to work at is closing its doors.
I swung by today to say hi one last time, and kid around with friends like old times.
I’m a normal, working person who chose to run for office, because I believe we can have a better future.
You can do it too. We all can. pic.twitter.com/WeNsFm4eTt

Milite told the Post that “Ocasio-Cortez’s desired ‘living wage’ of $15 an hour has been a living hell for many small business owners in New York, who’ve been unable to offset the cost through higher prices.” He continued, specifically referencing Cortez’s tweet, “It’s fine to mourn the impending closure of your former employer—it’s better to understand the misguided minimum-wage mandates that contributed to that closure.”
How Much is a Trillion?: Cortez is among those on the Left who like to pretend that the government could afford the whole host of Santa Claus policies they want, if only we taxed the rich more and cut defense spending. Seldom do you hear liberals mention that in the Scandinavian nations which do offer many of the government freebies they want, top tax rates are 60% (on incomes above $60,000), and there are national sales taxes of 25%.
Cortez has proposed a whole host of social programs that would require over $40 trillion in new government spending over 10 years. In July she appeared on Trevor Noah’s “Daily Show” and explained that she could raise $2 trillion towards her programs over the next decade by taxing the rich. Only $38+ trillion to go!
She’s had months to think about how she’ll fund everything she wants, but still can’t come up with an answer. Even CNN of all places pressed her on that question. “According to nonpartisan and left-leaning Tax Policy Center, the overall price tag is more than $40 trillion in the next decade. You recently said in an interview increasing taxes on the very wealthy, the increased corporate tax rate would make $2 trillion over the next 10 years. Where is the other $38 trillion going to come from?” host Jake Tapper asked her.
She gave a non-answer, which led to Tapper ending the segment with the comment that he guesses he “won’t get an answer for the other $38 trillion.”
Every single Congressional candidate that Cortez has endorsed thus far lost their race. For the sake of entertainment value, I actually hope she wins.
And if you ever had any doubt that failed president Barack Obama was a socialist, he has endorsed Cortez:
