Beloved Growing Pains dad Alan Thicke died unexpectedly of a heart attack on Tuesday.
Thicke was playing a hockey game with his teenage son, Carter, when he fell ill but was reportedly talking coherently to EMT workers and even asked his son to take a picture of him. Unfortunately, he was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
As we remember and celebrate his life, we reflect on the body of work he gave us.
In life and on TV, Thicke taught good moral lessons to parents and kids alike, and this video from New York Daily News shows how he could entertain us while making our lives better:
In Season 2 of the late ’80s show, Dr. Seaver offers his son Mike (Kirk Cameron) advice about resisting peer pressure when his friends press him to do drugs.
“You’re never going to be able to please everybody,” Dr. Seaver says as a proud dad upon learning his son turned down the drugs.
“What you did tonight took real courage. I admire you,” he praised.
His real-life son Carter paid tribute to his late father just hours after his death on Twitter.
Today I lost my best friend and my idol, and the world lost one of it’s finest. You are a legend and I love you Pops. Until next time. pic.twitter.com/ZQd2NZMTx4
