U.S. Pacific Command Commander Admiral Harry Harris didn’t mince words at a ceremony commemorating the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.
The deadly Japanese aerial assault drew the United States directly into the hostilities of World War II.
During his opening remarks which followed the national anthem, Harris took a not-so-subtle shot at Colin Kaepernick, the marginal NFL quarterback who has protested the Star-Spangled Banner by kneeling while it is performed before games.

Say this about San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick: His national-anthem protest drew a lot of attention, from all corners.
At a ceremony in Hawaii on Wednesday to mark the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, U.S. Pacific Command Commander Adm. Harry Harris made a remark that was clearly about the quarterback.
“You can bet that the men and women we honor today – and those who died that fateful morning 75 years ago – never took a knee and never failed to stand whenever they heard our national anthem being played,” Harris said, according to the Associated Press.
Harris nailed it with his comments which, according to the AP drew “a lengthy standing ovation from the crowd, with people whistling and hooting.”
“Hearing the words ‘the land of the free and the home of the brave’ means something special for every American, every day,” Admiral Harris added. “But today, on Dec. 7th, it takes on extraordinary significance, as we’re joined here in this hallowed place by World War II veterans and survivors of the attacks on military bases all across Oahu, including right here at Pearl Harbor.”
It is times like this – an anniversary honoring World War II veterans and Pearl Harbor survivors – when the ignorance of Kaepernick and other protesters exhibit as they disrespect the national anthem becomes clear.
