5,000 Troops Deployed to Border to Stop Caravan

As if anyone needed any more proof that the migrant caravan trekking from Honduras to the U.S.-Mexico border isn’t legitimately seeking asylum, over the weekend Mexico offered temporary asylum… which was rejected. The caravan stopped in Mexico yesterday, the same day General Jim Mattis announced that the military would send support to the U.S.-Mexico border if Mexico refused to halt the caravan. Now the Pentagon is making it official – troops will be sent to the border.

According to USA Today:

“The Pentagon will deploy up to 5,000 active-duty troops to the U.S.-Mexico border in an effort to prevent members of a migrant caravan from illegally entering the country. About 2,100 National Guard troops are already fanned out across the border under an order from President Donald Trump earlier this year. Administration officials said last week that they were considering a plan to send up to 1,000 active duty troops to the border, but that deployment has increased to 5,000. The troops are not expected to conduct law enforcement activities, but instead provide backup support to Border Patrol agents manning the border.”

President Trump issued a strong warning about the situation:

Who is behind the caravan?

VP Mike Pence has claimed that Venezuela’s socialist government and Honduran left-wing groups have aided in funding the caravan, and if their goal is to help the American Left by creating bad optics of migrants being turned around at the border, they couldn’t be any more delusional. President Donald Trump became President because he campaigned on a platform built on border security.

And with the caravan approaching, Trump has a perfect opportunity to flex his strength on that issue. If Venezuela and various left-wing groups are indeed behind this caravan, the American right-wing should be thanking them.

CNN has complained that the media is paying too much attention to the caravan, and I think we all know the reason why; they’re aware most Americans oppose it.
