WATCH: In 1988, Ron Paul Stood Alone To Warn Us About FBI Corruption

Ron Paul FBI warning

Following the raid of former president Donald Trump’s home at Mar-a-Lago by the FBI, conservatives across the country are now questioning whether our national law enforcement agencies are genuinely following the law or instead being used as political weapons in order to intimidate opposition.

Many Republicans, both elected and those seeking various public offices, are loudly criticizing and even going as far as to call for the complete abolishment of the FBI entirely.

Human Events editor Jack Posobiec, following the raid, tweeted that “I don’t know who needs to hear this but Ron Paul has been talking about disbanding the FBI and abolishing the Fed for longer than many of you have been alive.”

And he’s right. We have the video to prove it.

Ron Paul’s Warning About the FBI

A Twitter follower of Posobiec’s posted a video from a 1988 interview with Dr. Ron Paul that was done during his first presidential campaign as the Libertarian Party nominee that cycle.

For those who may not be familiar with the Good Doctor, Ron Paul served three stints in Congress – from 1976 to 1977, from 1979 to 1985, and from 1997 to 2013.

He also ran for President three times – as a Libertarian in 1988, and as a Republican in 2008 and 2012 – becoming famous for huge single-day fundraising pushes called “moneybombs.” He used his candidacies to bring issues like monetary policy, foreign policy, and corruption to the forefront.

Here is his warning about the FBI, 34 years ago:

“For most of our history we didn’t have those institutions,” Paul said to the interviewer. “The FBI came in during the First World War and interestingly enough, the one thing Woodrow Wilson did, he used the FBI to spy on American citizens and actually arrest them if they disagreed with his foreign policy about going to war in Europe.”

Paul continued, “Isn’t it interesting how recently they used it in the Vietnam era? Democrats used it then. Republicans used the FBI to spy on 100 different groups in this country, including the churches who disagree with the policy in Central America.”

Paul concluded that “It almost looks like the FBI was designed to spy on Americans who disagreed with policy, especially foreign policy.”

In the interview following his statements, Paul did concede that the FBI was not entirely a domestic threat to civil liberties, particularly since it does fight crimes at a national level, but Paul asserted that the general functions of the FBI could be handled between different levels of state law enforcement and the Department of Justice.

Have Our Fears Become Reality?

When looking back the FBI’s own behavior during the Trump administration alone, from their illegal spying of the 2016 Trump presidential campaign to actions of former special agent Peter Strzok and others that furthered the “Russiagate” narrative, conservatives are now admitting that Ron Paul’s warning decades ago rings true.

In an interview with “The Dive” days after the Mar-a-Lago raid, Dr. Paul continued to stick to his guns by saying the exact same thing that he said all those years ago, hoping that Republicans and Americans who value the rule of law and the Constitution will take action before things become too dangerous.

“What they should do is eliminate the law and order responsibility in Washington and the federal government,” said Paul, adding that the right prescription would be to return that responsibility back to individual states and smaller localities so that situations such as the “big political stunt” that was the raid on Trump’s home can never happen again.

What do you think of Ron Paul’s warning now and from all those years ago? Is there any chance of reforming the FBI or has the trust between the agency and the American people been permanently broken?
