In yet another example of the mainstream media latching onto any comment that might diminish President Trump in the eyes of the American people, the New York Times, with the help of a golf magazine, started spreading a story that quoted him as saying the White House is “a dump.”
Golf.com had the quote, buried deep within an article about the President’s complicated relationship with the game:
Chatting with some members before a recent round of golf, he explained his frequent appearances: “That White House is a real dump.”
Even Chelsea Clinton feigned outrage at the comments.
Within seconds of reading the statement, it should be glaringly obvious that if it was said, it was likely in a joking manner, and probably not in those exact words. In fact, jokes are referenced before and after this particular quote in the story.
We say “if it was said” though for a reason.
Trump said it never happened.

President Donald Trump expressed adoration for the White House late Wednesday as he pushed back against reports that he had called his new residence “a real dump.”
In an article that will appear in Monday’s edition of Sports Illustrated, Golf Magazine reported this week that the president told some members of Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, before a recent round of golf that he frequents the club because “that White House is a real dump.”
The president’s reported comments were amplified by other media outlets who seized on that portion of Golf Magazine’s article. Trump, however, disputed the reporting, as he often does.
The author of the golf article claims that “eight or nine” members or staffers in the club heard the comment, one of which told him about it.
“The president said this in front of eight or nine members and staffers at [Trump] Bedminster,” Alan Shipnuck said. “It was his first visit to the club after he had been residing in the White House. It was a moment of candor. Someone who was a part of that conversation relayed it to me. I found this person to be an extremely credible source on any number of topics.”
In short, the reporter never heard the comment, but used it as a quote in his article anyway. Third-hand accounts of comments don’t often end up in quotes.
Also – “It was a moment of candor?” It was a freaking joke, if it was said at all!
Yes, the man who recently gave Rep. Steve Scalise’s kids a tour of the White House in which he bragged “We gave them the A tour,” and that it was “beautiful,” disparaged the people’s home as a dump.
Just more proof that the media is willing to take every little comment the President makes and turn it into a major scandal.
