Twitter Reacts after Senator Ted Cruz “Likes” a Pornographic Tweet

Earlier this morning, the name “Ted Cruz” was trending on Twitter. But it wasn’t because the Texas senator did something legislatively in Washington. No, unfortunately, it was trending for reasons less political and more, well, smutty.

For Cruz fans, the following incident seems like something out of bizarro world.

Ted Cruz’s official twitter account doesn’t “like” many tweets, but the twittersphere went wild after noticing that he had recently “liked” a tweet featuring a clip from a pornographic video, coming from a user with the handle “Sexuall Posts.”

Poor Cruz. As a man of Christian faith, it’s obvious this was a slip. Or, at most, a mistake by an intern.

But there’s always a silver lining. Twitter users had a good laugh at the blunder. And some are just too damn funny not to share:

Now, as mentioned previously, Cruz, like nearly every politician, has a team of people managing his social media account. President Trump may be the only man in Washington who doesn’t.

Sen. Cruz confirmed this morning that a staffer was responsible for liking the pornographic Twitter post. “There are a number of people on the team who have access on the account. It appears that someone inadvertently hit the like button. When we discovered the post, which was I guess an hour or two later, we pulled it down,” Cruz told reporters. “It was a staffing issue. And it was inadvertent, it was a mistake. It was not a deliberate act. We’re dealing with internally, but it was a mistake. It was not malicious.”

Cruz also found some humor in the situation, also telling a reporter, “Perhaps we should have done something like this during the Indiana primary.”

The senator’s senior communications adivsor confirmed the “like” was removed:

Personally, I take the man’s word for it. These kinds of mistakes happen all the time when you have lower-level staffers running your social media. The staffer who committed the slip most likely didn’t even notice he or she had done so, or else they would’ve instantly “unliked” it to avoid any embarrassment.

We’ll know for sure, however, if Cruz is caught in two more identical sex scandals within a few short years – just like Anthony Weiner.

What do you think? Was this an honest mistake by a staffer? Tell us your thoughts below, and share this story on Facebook and Twitter!
