Hilarious! College Socialists Don’t Know What Socialism Is

Millennials today remain the only age demographic in America that largely views socialism in a favorable light.

A national Reason-Rupe survey found that 53% of Americans under 30 have a favorable view of socialism compared with less than a third of those over 30. Moreover, Gallup has found that an astounding 69% of millennials say they’d be willing to vote for a “socialist” candidate for president.

On the bright side, it’s relatively easy to convert millennials to capitalism. In fact, once they start working and paying taxes, their likelihood to support re-distributive policies tanks. According to the Washington Post, “millennials become averse to social welfare spending if they foot the bill. As they reach the threshold of earning $40,000 to $60,000 a year, the majority of millennials come to oppose income redistribution, including raising taxes to increase financial assistance to the poor.”

While the textbook definition of socialism is government control of the means of production (land, labor, and capital), most millennials don’t even know that much!

Campus Reform published a video yesterday showing college students in Washington, D.C. responding to two simple questions. The first question was: Do you think socialism is good or bad? As you’ll see, there was enthusiastic agreement from the students that socialism was a good idea, one which is about “helping people” and spreading the wealth. Some of the students even seem defensive, noting that socialism, inexplicably, has a bad reputation.

The second question was also simple: What is socialism? All of the students who were confident socialism was a good idea seem unable to really explain what it is or how it works to produce all of the good outcomes it supposedly produces. One student refers to “getting rid of that wealth gap” but that’s an effect, not a policy or a definition.

So they love socialism…. they just don’t know what it is. Perhaps these students should be required to take an economics course!

Know a younger person who loves socialism? Share this video with them!
