DNC staffer Seth Rich was murdered outside his D.C. home one year ago yesterday, and the conspiracies have yet to stop swirling.

Immediately after Rich’s murder, something seemed fishy. According to Rich’s mother:
“There had been a struggle. His hands were bruised, his knees are bruised, his face is bruised, and yet he had two shots to his back, and yet they never took anything… They didn’t finish robbing him, they just took his life,” she said, according to told NBC’s WRC-TV.
Indeed, the D.C. police have been investigating the murder as a “robbery gone wrong,” but why would a robber shoot Rich in the back? Even stranger, why would a robber neglect to take his wallet or any of his other personal effects?
Just last month, a group of forensic psychology graduate students at George Washington University released a bombshell report concluding that Rich was murdered by a professional hitman and that he “may have been targeted.” Which begs the question: who targeted him? Republican lobbyist Jack Burkman thinks it was the Russians. Fox News contributor Rod Wheeler fanned the flames that Hillary Clinton had him murdered by claiming that Rich had a relationship with WikiLeaks.
Point being: conspiracies abound. And Rich’s parents are tired of it all. On the anniversary of their son’s death, the Rich family released a statement pleading for amateur sleuths to stop investigating and “cease using Seth as a political football in predetermined partisan narratives”:

It’s certainly understandable that Rich’s family want speculation about their son’s death to cease. And maybe the investigation should be left to police. But considering the strange circumstances surrounding Rich’s murder – not to mention the fact that the police haven’t solved anything – why wouldn’t the Rich family be open to someone else finding a smoking gun?
Enter Republican political strategist Roger Stone, who had this to say after the Rich family released their statement:

Unsurprisingly, Stone’s rather insensitive speculation went over like a lead balloon:

However, regardless of what the Rich family may know, based on the information available to the public I’m inclined to question that Rich was murdered in a botched robbery attempt. Was it a hit? Maybe it was, maybe it wasn’t. But one thing’s for certain: we haven’t heard the last of this case yet.
