Man Lost His Job To See His Child’s Birth

pregnancy story

Imagine your wife is pregnant and could have her baby at any day, and you have a new job that requires you to be on call 24/7? Let me also add you’re in a 90-day trial period where it’s crucial to the future of your employment that you do not miss any time or you could be fired.

Lamar Austin found himself in that particular position when his wife went into labor, and he was inside the 90-day window as a security guard for Salerno Protective Services. Austin knew his job was important for the stability of his family as he even picked up extra shifts and covered for others.

Well, life waits for no one. Austin’s wife, Lindsay went into labor on the day before New Year’s Eve and Austin’s decision was one he would have to live with for the rest of his life.

From Liftable:

He informed his boss that his wife was in labor so he would not make his scheduled shifts. An hour into New Year’s Day at 1 a.m., Austin received a text that read, “As of now, you are terminated.”

Austin said the decision was an easy one to make.

“It was hard, but if I have to choose between work and family, I’m always going to pick my family.”

Watch the story here:

Honestly, I am shocked this establishment was that strict for a good employee such as Austin. He took extra shifts trying to look good and dependable as his wife was in the hospital preparing to have their baby.

I am glad he’s getting job offers, and things look to be on the right path for this family.

What do you think of Austin’s decision to be at his wife’s bedside instead of going to work? Is that what you would have done? Share your voices below and add this article to your Facebook and Twitter page.
