Never one to let a crisis go to waste, President Obama is attempting to use the shootings at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church as an opportunity to call for more gun control. Essentially, he is using the murders of nine people to promote his anti Second Amendment agenda.
Rather than giving time to the families and the country to grieve and heal, Obama looked to promote his gun-grabbing agenda just hours after the heinous crimes.
“It doesn’t happen in other places with this kind of frequency. And it is in our power to do something about it. I say that recognizing the politics in this town foreclose a lot of those avenues right now. But it would be wrong for us not to acknowledge it, and at some point it’s going to be important for the American people to come to grips with it and for us to be able to shift how we think about the issue of gun violence collectively.
We don’t have all the facts, but we do know that, once again, innocent people were killed in part because someone who wanted to inflict harm had no trouble getting their hands on a gun.”

What the President failed to recognize is that people like Dylann Storm Roof, who are intent on killing people, will not obey gun control laws. Those laws restricting Second Amendment rights only prevent people from being permitted to defend themselves.
The timing of this latest gun grabbing push is inappropriate and insensitive. Given the President’s continued failures with his gun control agenda, it is not surprising that he will latch onto a tragedy to attempt to move his desire to limit the Second Amendment.
