A massive shakeup in President Donald Trump’s legal team just happened.
Trump needed an outside legal team to fight the Russia investigation, which included Marc Kasowitz, his long-time personal attorney. Now, the spokesman Mark Corallo, who once served at the Department of Justice, has quit.
This is a big deal:
In an email to the Washington Examiner early Friday morning, Corallo confirmed his move by saying simply, “I resigned.”
John Santucci, a senior editorial producer at ABC, first reported the news late Thursday, and the Washington Post also reported Corallo’s ouster.
Corallo has been putting out statements on behalf of Marc Kasowitz, Trump’s personal lawyer who is representing the president in any matter concerning the investigations into Russian interference in the 2016 election and possible collusion with the Trump campaign.
Corallo, a former spokesman for the Justice Department, reportedly had been pushing back against any public criticism of Robert Mueller, who is the special counsel running the federal probe looking into Russian meddling.
Politico reported, citing an unnamed person who spoke with Corallo, that he no longer needed the money and had complained there was “too much fighting all the time” in the White House and that there was too much conflict among the lawyers.
Corallo was apparently not happy about Trump’s criticism of Special Counsel investigator Robert Mueller’s partisan background. Trump isn’t happy that Mueller is directing the investigation toward Trump’s personal finances.
This comes just after it was announced Kasowitz will take a less prominent role in the Russia investigation, allowing other attorneys to take the lead. The announcement happened after left-wing ProPublica published profanity-leaked emails from the attorney.
Recently, Corallo also recently told an associate that there was “too much fighting all the time” in the White House. And he reportedly wanted to earn a higher salary.
