Lindsey Graham Slams Chuck Schumer Over Supreme Court Filibuster

Sen. Lindsey Graham has been and probably will forever be in opposition to President Trump on the vast majority of issues, but on the subject of Judge Neil Gorsuch being added to the Supreme Court, he’s joined forces with the Commander-in-Chief.

On Sunday morning, Graham publicly called out Democrat Sen. Chuck Schumer in a way that will be talked about for a few days going forward. After Schumer said he was going to filibuster Gorsuch’s confirmation vote for SCOTUS, Graham called the New York filibustering minority leader a “destructive force” and came close to saying the Senate would do better without him.

This statement coming from Graham is welcomed. It’s also eye-opening, since Graham continues to disparage Trump on a daily basis and because Senate decorum usually stops senators from attacking each other so directly.

Sen. Charles Schumer is a “destructive force” to Senate tradition because of his resistance to Judge Neil Gorsuch’s Supreme Court confirmation, Sen. Lindsay Graham said Sunday.

Graham, a top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, blasted Schumer for demanding Gorsuch receive a filibuster-proof 60 votes for confirmation. Democrats control 52 seats.

“Chuck Schumer has been a destructive force, in my opinion, when it comes to the traditions of the Senate, ” Graham told Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.”

Graham said Senate Republicans should use the “nuclear” option to upend the rules and allow just a majority vote for confirmation.

“If I have to change the rules to put this man on the Supreme Court, I will,” Graham said. He blamed Democratic resistance to a well-qualified nominee on pressure from the “hard left.”

“He’s [Schumer ] running scared of the left who is going absolutely insane after Trump won the election,” Graham added.

Watch the interview here:

Schumer is going to filibuster Gorsuch’s confirmation simply because he can. He has no reason to oppose Gorsuch. And the only way to get around Democrat obstruction is for Sen. Mitch McConnell to implement the nuclear option.

I know some of you are scratching your heads on how you could be agreeing with Graham, but he’s speaking the truth here. Gorsuch was approved by the Senate over 10 years ago for his federal judge position and he’s seen nothing but praise ever since.

Schumer is being an obstructionist and the Senate “nuclear option” must take place.
