White House Says Kimberly Guilfoyle Will Not Become Press Secretary

Over the last several days, rumors have been swirling that Fox News host Kimberly Guilfoyle was in talks to depart the cable news network and become the new White House Press Secretary, replacing Sean Spicer.

After Guilfoyle talked to a San Francisco newspaper expressing her interest in a White House role, Fox News released a terse statement reiterating that the host was under “long-term” contract with the network.

After all of the speculation, a senior White House official is saying that Guilfoyle will not become the White House Press Secretary, telling the Daily Mail the idea is a “total non-starter. Not happening.”

From The Daily Mail:

Guilfoyle herself seemed to walk back Monday’s hopeful-sounding statements to the San Jose Mercury News that ‘a number of people’ in the Trump administration have asked her about the possibility of replacing Sean Spicer as the White House press secretary.

‘I really love what I do and my job co-hosting The Five is tough to beat,’ she told DailyMail.com through a spokesperson. The president has reportedly groused in recent weeks about a lackluster press and communications team, especially in the wake of his firing FBI Director James Comey.

Guilfoyle said on Fox News last week that there was ‘room for improvement with the rollout.’ Then she offered the famously prickly Spicer what appeared to be a backhanded stab disguised as advice. ‘If you want to be successful and do communications with President Trump, you have to be someone who he actually wants to spend a little bit of time with,’ Guilfoyle said.

Guilfoyle’s public lobbying for a White House job has reportedly angered President Trump, with some saying he is “furious” and insists the Fox News host is “using us” to promote her own career. A White House source claims that President Trump “gets angry every time he sees those stories” in which Guilfoyle comments on Sean Spicer’s job performance, which may have led to the White House shooting down rumors of her joining the administration.

President Trump is right to be concerned that Ms. Guilfoyle, or anyone for that matter, would be trying to use the possibility of a White House gig simply as a means to promote their own career. If Guilfoyle has no actual interest in becoming the White House Press Secretary she shouldn’t be commenting on the situation at all.
