John McCain Denies Saying Obama Was A Better Leader Than Trump

Has Sen. John McCain gone senile?

Last week, McCain mistakenly called James Comey “President Comey” several times during Comey’s testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee. He also confused the Hillary Clinton email probe with the Trump-Russia investigation.

Then he doubled down on his embarrassment when he told The Guardian that American leadership was stronger under Barack Obama than it is under Donald Trump:

Senator John McCain, a prominent Republican voice on foreign policy, was visibly irked when asked by the Guardian what message Trump had sent to the United Kingdom, one of America’s most enduring allies.

“What do you think the message is? The message is that America doesn’t want to lead,” McCain said, while adding of the rest of the world: “They are not sure of American leadership, whether it be in Siberia or whether it be in Antarctica.”

Asked if America’s standing on the global stage was better under Barack Obama, McCain, a fervent critic of the previous administration’s foreign policy, responded: “As far as American leadership is concerned, yes.”

That’s pretty bad. Which is probably why McCain is now claiming he never said it:

“I never said such a thing. A thousand times I said, ‘Look at the world in 2009 and look at it today.’ Of course, I never said [that]. If I did I was joking,” McCain told The Daily Caller.

Um, what? Clearly he did say it – he’s on the record as saying it. So inquiring minds want to know: Is he lying or is it time for Old Man McCain to retire?

McCain will turn 81 this year; he’s held his seat in the Senate for a whopping 30 years. Whether he’s going senile or not, it’s time for him to retire.
