John McCain Answers Bizarre Behavior During Comey Hearings

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Sen. John McCain, thank you for your years of service, but it is time for you to retire.

The internet was abuzz over the direction of questioning McCain took with former FBI Director James Comey on Thursday. It seemed like he was confused and upset that clearing Hillary Clinton on the email thing was somehow unfair since they were still looking into President Trump’s campaign.

I’m sure I was not the only one listening and wondering if they would be able to adequately explain to him why the two are unrelated and that her participation in the election did not imply she should be investigated for something for which there is no evidence against her team while plenty against the other one.

It was hard to watch. The real “tell” was the rising anger when he couldn’t express himself clearly. That is a common symptom when one is losing capacity and moving toward some type of dementia. I felt for him.

Sen. John McCain said that his decision to stay up late watching an Arizona Diamondbacks baseball game contributed to his confusing series of questions to former FBI Director James Comey on Thursday.

“I get the sense from Twitter that my line of questioning today went over people’s heads. Maybe going forward I shouldn’t stay up late watching the Diamondbacks night games,” the Arizona Republican said in a statement.

Twitter slammed McCain after his questions during the Senate Intelligence Committee hearing, two of which focused on the 2016 FBI investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails and the 2017 investigation into Russian meddling in the presidential election. Comey appeared confused by McCain’s questions, and McCain himself looked frustrated as he asked them.

Here is McCain’s explanation:

It looked to me watching the hearing live that Sen. McCain was confused. More than once he said “Comey” when it was obvious that he meant to say “Trump,” and his line of questioning made no sense. He’s 80 yrs old, and I found myself wondering if he was okay.

McCain had a point that he intended to make, and it didn’t matter that it was counter to the truth, and it didn’t matter that Comey repeatedly corrected him, he was going to make his erroneous point and he was going to have the last word on his erroneous point.

It makes me sad that I used to have respect for McCain, but his repeated demonstrations over the last year that he will always put party before country have destroyed that minimal respect.
