Police on Long Island are investigating a painting of Jesus Christ that was hung outside a mosque on Friday as a potential hate crime.
A large painting of Jesus Christ was found at an Islamic center on Long Island, and now authorities are investigating whether or not it was left as part of a hate crime.
The painting, depicting Jesus Christ on a cross, was discovered by an employee hanging from the fence at Hillside Islamic Center on Covert Avenue in New Hyde Park.
At this time, investigators consider it to be a “bias incident.”

Surveillance cameras caught a man hanging the painting on the fence. How threatening.
But the kicker to this whole situation is that it’s not Muslims who are offended by this act of passive evangelism – it’s the police:
Mosque leaders told police that they are not offended by the imagery of Jesus Christ, according to News 12 Long Island.
This lack of offense has not stopped investigators from labeling the incident as a potential hate crime.
Of course, the New York branch of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) issued a statement calling the incident a “teaching moment”:
“Bias may have motivated this incident, but it could serve as a teaching moment for the perpetrator and for the community if it leads to greater understanding of the love Muslims have for Jesus, peace be upon him,” the CAIR statement said.
CAIR lists a handful of verses from the Quran which, CAIR says, demonstrate “the spiritual unity of the Abrahamic faiths.”
“The spiritual legacy of Jesus (peace be upon him) should be a unifying factor for Muslims and Christians, not a source of division or bigotry,” CAIR urged in the statement.
That’s all well and good, but CAIR’s statement would carry a lot more weight if they weren’t linked to Palestinian terror group Hamas. In fact, just recently a representative for CAIR defended a Muslim woman who called for “jihad” against the Trump administration:

If a Muslim hung a painting of Muhammad outside a Christian church, no one would blink an eye. Oh wait; images of Muhammad are forbidden by Islam – and when “infidels” draw pictures of him it leads to bloodshed.
