Here’s Who Is Being Considered to Replace Comey at the FBI

On Tuesday, President Donald J. Trump abruptly fired FBI Director James Comey.

Like clockwork, the liberal media and the Washington, D.C. establishment collectively went into panic mode, comparing Comey’s firing to that of Watergate, some even claiming that America was in a constitutional crisis.

These very same liberals who were attacking President Trump’s decision to relieve Comey of his duties were singing a different tune in recent months, harshly criticizing Comey for his handling of the Hillary Clinton email scandal.

The left’s hypocrisy over Comey firing couldn’t be any more obvious, but the country needs to move on, as the FBI has serious work to do. Now that Comey is officially out of a job, President Trump will undoubtedly be faced with a difficult decision: who should replace him?

Well, a Justice Department official has reportedly informed NBC News of 4 individuals, plus Andrew McCabe, who is the acting director of the FBI, that President Trump might nominate as Comey’s permanent replacement.

From NBC News:

William Evanina, Office of Director of National Intelligence: Evanina is currently the head of the Office of the National Counterintelligence Executive, which is the DNI’s counterintelligence agency. That means he looks at insider threats and spying on the U.S. from a broad policy perspective. It also means he has been briefed on the FBI counterintelligence investigation.

A Scranton, Pennsylvania native, Evanina spent a year long stint as chief of the counter espionage group for the CIA before taking his latest job in 2014. Prior to that, he was assistant special agent in charge of the national security branch of the FBI’s Washington field office.

Adam Lee, the Special Agent in Charge in Richmond, Va. office: Lee was appointed to head the FBI’s Richmond office in 2014. Before that he worked in the bureau’s Washington headquarters where he led the FBI’s investigations into elected and appointed officials and civil rights violations.

Michael Anderson, the Special Agent in Charge in Chicago: Anderson became head of the FBI’s Chicago division in September 2015. Before that he worked in the bureau’s New Orleans office where he investigated the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and former Mayor Ray Nagin.

Paul Abbate, FBI Executive Assistant Director for the Criminal, Cyber, Response and Services Branch: Abbate has overseen all FBI criminal and cyber investigations and international operations since January. Before that he worked as the assistant director in charge of the FBI’s Washington field office.

All four individuals have extensive resumes, and few would doubt their qualifications in taking over for Comey, but would President Trump ever nominate one of these individuals? It is well-known that President Trump values loyalty above anything else, so Trump likely would be inclined to select someone that he has a good relationship with, and most importantly, can trust.

President Trump likely has little or any personal relationship with any of these people, and would have to rely on the recommendations from other Justice Department bureaucrats as to who is most qualified.

While the individuals listed above are certainly seen positively from within the Justice Department, is it who Trump’s supporters would endorse? Some names conservatives have tossed around include Congressman Trey Gowdy, Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Sheriff David Clarke, all with a strong relationship with President Trump.
