Jimmy Carter Reveals He Didn’t Vote For Hillary Clinton

In the end it seems, the man who once vowed to the American people to “never tell a lie” couldn’t bring himself to vote for the woman who never tells the truth.

At a human rights forum alongside Senator Bernie Sanders, former president Jimmy Carter let slip that he did not cast a vote for Hillary Clinton during the 2016 Democrat primaries.

Rather, his choice for the party was Sanders.

After the Senator finished discussing strategies in dealing with real world problems, Carter responded “Can y’all see why I voted for him?”

The comment evoked sparse laughter in the crowd, except for one lone woman in the back row…

Hillary sad

Just kidding.

Via Time:

If former President Jimmy Carter had it his way, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders would have been the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee.

The 39th president said he voted for Sanders over Hillary Clinton in the 2016 Democratic primary. Carter revealed his choice during a discussion with Sanders at the Carter Center in Atlanta on Monday evening.

“If we had 80% of people voting in this country, the Republican Party would be a significant minority,” Sanders, referring to high voter turnout for the French presidential election this year, said in a video published by the Washington Post. “So we have got to get people involved. And you do that by being honest about the real problems they face and come up with real solutions.”

Pausing for a moment, Carter asked the audience: “Can y’all see why I voted for him?”

Carter gave a lukewarm endorsement of Hillary after both parties had selected their candidate back in August, one through a fair process, the other through a rigged process.

Carter said he would vote for Clinton even though “both choices in the major parties are quite unpopular.”

It was clear even then that Carter had no interest in backing Hillary and would have preferred the curmudgeonly Vermont socialist.

Perhaps Carter’s own words back in 1976 reveal why he wouldn’t want to support somebody like Clinton.

“I’ll never tell a lie,” he told voters. “I’ll never knowingly make a misstatement of fact. I’ll never betray your trust. If I do any of these things, I don’t want you to support me.”

Hillary could never be held to such a standard, as a good bulk of her career has been based on lies and half truths.
