Famous Saturday Night Live Actor Joe Piscopo Could Be Running For Governor

Former Saturday Night Live comedian Joe Piscopo reportedly has his eye on the governorship of New Jersey, and his left-wing Hollywood buddies are going to be furious!

Piscopo, who came to prominence with his impressions of Frank Sinatra on SNL, had up until 2014 been a lifelong Democrat.

At the time, he spoke of his working-class past, growing up admiring the Democrat Party under iconic leaders like John F. Kennedy, but would later confess that the values he admired in the party and proudly supported were no longer being represented by the radical Democratic Party of today.

Now, he may be coming full circle as a member of the party of Reagan.

Joe Piscopo’s Frank Sinatra impression, made famous from his days on “Saturday Night Live,” has gotten an update.

It’s no longer “New York, New York,” but “NJ, NJ,” the actor, standup comic and potential 2017 Republican candidate for governor is now crooning.

Piscopo performed the updated song — lyrics included “my New York and Philly blues are melting away” — at a recent charity event for the Boys and Girls Club in New Jersey, where his flirtation with running for governor to succeed incumbent Republican Chris Christie when his term ends in 2018 is out in the open.

It’s no joke, he said.

Here’s a clip of Piscopo explaining how Reagan changed his way of viewing politics at the 3:30 mark:

The former comedian also used Reagan as an example to help explain his departure from the Democrat Party a couple of years ago.

“When I met President Reagan, I felt inspired,” he said. “I want to feel inspired again. Like Reagan, I think the time has come for me to leave the party I’ve been a member of my entire life — not because I want to leave it, but because it has already left me.”

Now Piscopo cites President-elect Donald Trump as a source of inspiration for his possible Republican run to succeed Governor Chris Christie.

“When I saw Mr. Trump in Tampa and he invited me to speak, I saw it was contagious,” he said. “It was the movement. It wasn’t the machine.”

“I’m seriously looking at it,” he said, promising to make a decision by January. “I love the people. I love the state. I know what has to be done.”
