President Trump met with Flint, Michigan Mayor Karen Weaver to discuss the city’s ongoing water crisis, then his Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded the city $100 million to fix their water infrastructure.
Trump met with city officials on Wednesday to discuss the ongoing crisis. Days later, they received word that $100 million would be headed their way.
“The people of Flint and all Americans deserve a more responsive federal government,” Trump announced. “EPA will especially focus on helping Michigan improve Flint’s water infrastructure as part of our larger goal of improving America’s water infrastructure.”
During the 2016 presidential campaign, Hillary Clinton criticized Republicans for turning their backs on the people of Flint and accused Trump of making a spectacle of himself when he visited the city.

As usual, her words ring hollow in retrospect, now that Trump has granted the city $100 million to fix the water crisis.

The funding was provided by the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Act of 2016 and enables the beleaguered city to replace its decaying lead water pipes. Michigan is providing the required 20 percent match of $20 million.
The fix is part of the Trump administration’s goal of updating the country’s water infrastructure, EPA administrator Scott Pruitt said Friday in a press statement.
Democrats were concerned that an administration review of the EPA would result in these funds being frozen for Flint. Not to be, however.
“We are excited and very grateful to receive these much-needed funds,” Weaver beamed after the announcement. “The City of Flint being awarded a grant of this magnitude in such a critical time of need will be a huge benefit.”
