Flashback: Dolly Parton on Co-Stars Bashing Trump at Emmys – ‘I Wasn’t Going to Play the Game’

Country music legend Dolly Parton said she didn’t contribute to her co-stars efforts in bashing President Trump at this year’s Emmys because she “wasn’t going to play the game.”

Parton actually received a lot of heat simply for being on stage with Hollywood moonbats Lily Tomlin and “Hanoi Jane” Fonda during their anti-Trump screed.

The three well-known actresses gathered onstage for a mini-reunion of their hit film ‘9 to 5.’

Fonda and Tomlin, rather than celebrate their past success, seized the opportunity talk trash about the President.

“Back in 1980 in that movie, we refused to be controlled by a sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot,” Fonda said.

Tomlin replied, “And in 2017, we still refuse to be controlled by a sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot.”

Weird, you’d have thought they were referring to Harvey Weinstein with that description.

Regardless, fans found Parton to be guilty by association, until conservative actor James Woods stepped in and explained she likely had nothing to do with the bit.

Indeed, video of the speech seems to show Parton being caught off guard. As her co-stars crack their jokes, the country star twice appears to shake her head in disbelief.

Parton joined Fox & Friends to explain why she didn’t take part in the bashing, offering words of wisdom Hollywood elites may want to adhere to from now on.

“I’ve got as many Republican fans as Democrats and I don’t want to make any of them mad at me, so I don’t play politics,” she explained. “Plus I’m an entertainer, and I don’t usually voice my opinion in a situation like that.”

She then added, “I was there about the movie.”

Can you imagine? An actress sticking to acting, or a singer sticking to singing? Or even a quarterback sticking to being a bad quarterback?

“Lily and Jane are Lily and Jane and I’m Dolly,” Parton said. “I can’t tell everyone what to do. Everybody knows I don’t do politics.”

The rest of Hollywood should consider avoiding political commentary as well.
