Police Officer Saved by K-9 Dog During Attack by Three Thugs

It’s safe to say that dog is man’s best friend, but rarely do we think of these furry four-legged animals doing more than providing us with companionship and affection.

Well one man, police Deputy Todd Frazier, can certainly say that his dog Lucas is more than just a dog, but a hero, after he saved his life.

One evening, Frazier was attacked by three men in the woods in Hancock County, Mississippi, and if it weren’t for the dog, he might not be alive today.

From The Clarion Ledger:

Frazier had stopped in a rural area to check on a car and two men came out of the woods and attacked him. When the driver of the car got out, it was three against one, Frazier said, and it was a fight for his life. The three men began dragging Frazier toward the woods and stabbed him in the head, probably with a box cutter, doctors said. The scar is still visible on Frazier’s forehead.

Authorities have said many times that the men were going to kill Frazier and leave him there. But they didn’t figure on a brave 6-year-old black Belgian Malinois who wasn’t going to let his owner go down without a fight.

I had three people on me and I’m not a very big man, and they basically whipped my butt,” Frazier told the kids. “And luckily thank God I had Lucas here, and I had a button on my belt that I wear, and when I hit the button Lucas jumped out of the car and attacked all three of them and they ran away. That’s why he’s my hero.”

Lucas was in the back of Frazier’s patrol vehicle, and he already knew not only something, but everything was wrong.

“He knew. I could hear him coming. I couldn’t see anything because the blood was all in my eyes, but I could hear him coming, growling and making these sounds… he sounded like a wolf,” said Frazier. “I thought, ‘Now he’s gonna get you.'”

Frazier is extremely lucky, and odds are if it wasn’t for his dog Lucas, this story would have been a tragedy, rather than an amazing miracle. K-9 dogs are placed in dangerous situations every day, and their lives are put on the line, just like the officers they work alongside.

Most of us don’t consciously think about the risk K-9 dogs experience, but they are as much a part of America’s police force as the men and women in blue are!

It’s really incredible, if you think about it. Though Deputy Frazier says his attackers weren’t afraid of him because he’s small, he’s also a uniformed officer carrying a gun and other weapons. That didn’t frighten the attackers, but Lucas the dog was fearsome enough to send them all scattering.

Thanks to Lucas, Deputy Frazier will be able to keep protecting the citizens of Mississippi for years to come!
